CFT 20-R is a measure of the fluid intelligence, thus it can be useful where a prognosis of future achievements requires an assessment of the fluid intelligence. Since the test can be applied in a broad age spectrum, it is recommended for school counseling (e.g. when choosing educational paths or identifying pupils which require remedial programs) as well as job counseling (selection or consulting). The CFT 20-R can also be used in research on the nature and development of intelligence.

Reliability

High internal consistency of the general score as well as of both test parts (split-half reliability >.80). Moderately high or high (depending on the examined group) test-retest reliability, lower in children under 12. The scores are significantly better after 3 weeks.

Validity

Variability of scores with the age according to the theory of fluid intelligence, confirmed connections with other intelligence tests – higher with the tests measuring fluid intelligence (Raven), lower with the tests measuring crystallized intelligence, and especially with those using verbal material (vocabulary tests), correlations with school grades in pupils – all this speaks favorably for the validity of the CFT 20-R.

Norms

For pupils aged 8–19 and adults aged 20–59 (all-Poland samples) – for the general score (the sum of points of two test parts), as well as for the separate parts (part 1 and part 2).

The test is also available as an online examination on the Epsilon Platform and as an option for entering and calculating scores from the paper-and-pencil version on the Epsilon Platform.
