ASD can be described as a biologically conditioned set of pathological behaviours which can occur on many different levels and may be more or less severe. ASD is a complicated clinical term. ASRS® grasps the wide variety of behaviours associated with ASD including deficiences in communication skills, attention deficits and difficulties in the relations with peers and adults. It also includes assessment criteria of ASD as defined in DSM-IV-TR.
There are two versions of ASRS®: regular and short. The administration time for the former is 15 minutes, for the latter it is 5 minutes. The regular versions allow to describe various dimensions of child's functioning, whereas the short ones give you only the overall score. Psychometric characteristics of the short version are similar to the overall score of the regular version.
Materials:
- Complete set (manual, sheets – regular version (25 cop.), sheets – short version (25 cop.))

ASRS® grasps the wide variety of behaviours associated with ASD including deficiences in communication skills, attention deficits and difficulties in the relations with peers and adults. It also includes ASD assessment criteria as defined in DSM-IV-TR. Additional commentary included in the manual allows to adapt the assessment to modifications introduced in DSM-V.
The questionnaire allows to additionally diagnose deficits in the field of attention, which are not covered by the main diagnostic axes of the DSM classification of disorders. These deficits, as shown by clinical observation, co-occur with axial manifestations of ASD.
Reliability
Very high (over 0,9) for the ASRS® main scales in the teacher version and high (over 0,8) for the same scales in the parent version; satisfactory for shorter therapeutic scales.
Validity
Discriminant validity confirmed – the test differentiates between children or adolescents with the assessed autism spectrum disorders and those with other assessments (original research); in the Polish research children assessed with ASD were compared to a sample of general population and a sample of those assessed with ADHD. In addition convergent and discriminant validities were confirmed by the associations with ASD questionnaire scores (original version) and with appropriate scales in Conners 3 and CDI 2 questionnaires (Polish version).
Norms
Separate for each sex (gender) and combined; separate for each age group; developed for each version (R,N) on the quota sample of about 1500 persons (3000 filled-out questionnaires in total).
The test is also available as an online examination on the Epsilon Platform and as an option for entering and calculating scores from the paper-and-pencil version on the Epsilon Platform.
